Percutaneous Mitral Valve Replacement PDF Print E-mail

Over the past several years a major focus of our group has been to develop a percutaneously-deliverable, stent-based mitral valve replacement that can be used in high risk patients with functional mitral valve disease. The technology is being designed to allow mitral valve replacement via a peripheral vein without the need for and incision or use of cardiopulmonary bypass. We have produced high quality prototypes that have been tested in our large animal model of ischemic mitral regurgitation. Results have been highly encouraging. This work has resulted in several patent applications and has received grants form Penn’s Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics as well as the University City Science Center.
